## What counts as a check

### Counted

gov.uk or DVLA gave an answer about the person.

-   `ACCEPTED` has the right to work or rent, or gov.uk showed their status, or DVLA showed the licence
-   `REJECTED` does not
-   `NOT_FOUND` no record matching that share code and date of birth
-   `SHARE_CODE_UNUSABLE` gov.uk refused the share code, so ask for a new one
-   `CHECK_CODE_UNUSABLE` DVLA refused the licence check code, so ask for a new one

Anything where you didn't get an answer.

-   Errors: gov.uk or DVLA timed out or changed its page
-   Requests we refused: bad input, wrong key, over your limit, a check code already sent

## Pricing questions

### Do I need a card for the free tier?

No. Sign up with your email and you get a sandbox key and 10 live checks a month. Without a card nothing is ever charged: after 10 the API returns QUOTA\_EXCEEDED until the next month. To keep going, move to Pro, or stay on Free and add a card to pay £0.75 for each extra check, with no monthly fee.

### How is going over billed?

Each check past your allowance is added to your next monthly Stripe invoice, at your plan’s rate: £0.25 on Pro, £0.10 on Scale, and £0.75 on Free with a card (after the free 10).

### Is there a ceiling?

No. Once a card is on file, every check past your allowance runs and is billed at your plan’s rate, however many there are. On Pro and Scale you get an email at 80% and at 100% of your allowance, and the running total is always on your Usage and Billing pages.

### How many checks does a driving licence check use?

A driving licence check uses 2 checks of your plan’s allowance, refused codes (CHECK\_CODE\_UNUSABLE) included, so Free covers 5 a month, Pro 50 and Scale 250. Past your allowance each one is billed as 2 extra checks: £1.50 on Free with a card, £0.50 on Pro and £0.20 on Scale. A check code your account already sent in the last 21 days is refused before DVLA sees it, and not charged.

### Can I change or cancel my plan?

Yes, from the Billing page in your dashboard, at any time. After cancelling, your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for.

### Do you sign a data processing agreement?

Yes. The DPA is published at /legal/dpa, with a countersignable PDF for your procurement team.

### When does my allowance reset?

At the start of each calendar month, in UTC.
